Letter: Turek is the wrong choice for Iowa farmers

Aug 31, 2026 | In the News

As a fifth-generation farmer raising the sixth with my wife on our family farm outside of Hull, ensuring that our two boys can carry on our proud farming traditions is very important to me. Agriculture is a passion for them just like it’s been for me.

That’s why it frustrates me that Josh Turek has said that he wants to completely eliminate the tax cuts that Republicans like Ashley Hinson passed last year.

Those tax cuts ensured that we don’t have to pay an even higher death tax just to pass the farm from one generation to the next.

It just shows me that Josh Turek doesn’t know the first thing about Iowa agriculture or family farming.

As part of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, we also fought for appropriate labeling for farm-raised beef and I even took my boys down to Des Moines where they testified on the importance of feeding our kids real food at school, not food grown in a lab.

Again, that’s why we cannot have Josh Turek as the next U.S. senator from Iowa.

Turek opposed legislation to stop fake meat from being labeled as real.

In places like Sioux County, where we raise the highest-quality beef in the world, it’s just common sense that we would also eat the beef we raise.

But apparently to Josh Turek, he has no problem siding with fake meat activists over Iowa farmers.

For these reasons and so many more, my wife and I will be voting for Ashley Hinson to be our next U.S. senator.

She is a strong voice for agriculture, and I know she won’t raise our taxes, promote fake meat, or saddle us with more regulations like Josh Turek has done and promised to do.
