Josh Turek Wants Higher Taxes on Iowans

Sep 18, 2026 | Press Release

Turek Believes Preventing Tax Hikes on Iowans is a “Threat”

Grimes, IA – Yesterday, local leaders and Iowa taxpayers gathered in Grimes to express their support for Iowa Amendment 1 and denounce Josh Turek’s vote to make it easier for politicians to raise their taxes.

Josh Turek voted against advancing Iowa Amendment 1 to the November ballot, opting to let politicians indiscriminately raise taxes on Iowans. Working Iowans already squeezed by high prices should have certainty that their taxes won’t go up. Josh Turek can’t even do that — he wants higher taxes and it will only push families down further.

He is a typical liberal politician who thinks he knows how to spend Iowans’ hard-earned money better than they do.

“The Republican Party of Iowa is standing firm on Amendment One and attacking Ashley Hinson’s congressional opponent, Democrat Josh Turek. Amendment One is on the November 3rd ballot, proposing a constitutional change. That change would require a two-thirds supermajority in both the Iowa House and Senate to pass any bill increasing the state’s individual or corporate income tax rates or creating a new income tax, supporters of Amendment One stressed the importance of it passing and their feelings about Josh Turek.

‘I think it’s very important to share this news about Iowa Amendment Number One and really what Josh Turek’s record is of he doesn’t want to support Iowa taxpayers, and he seems to be in favor of more government control and higher taxes.’

When we contacted Josh Turek’s campaign for comment about this, they said they stand behind a statement Common Good Iowa released last week.

‘Amendment one is a threat to Iowa’s future. It is incompatible with the Iowa values of fairness and accountability that we all prize. If enacted, Amendment One will give a small minority of legislators the power to obstruct essential bipartisan tax reform.’”

Actually, the threat to Iowa’s future is Josh Turek’s support for endless tax increases on Iowa families, workers, seniors, farmers, and small businesses.
