Des Moines, IA – Today, the Iowa Farm Bureau endorsed Ashley Hinson for United States Senate, citing her strong track record of delivering for Iowa farmers and rural communities. Josh Turek would be a disaster for Iowa agriculture – he supports California’s Prop 12 regulations, sides with fake-meat activists over Iowa farmers and voted to label fake meat as real, and skipped the vote on the Iowa Farm Bill.
“I’m honored to have earned the endorsement of the Iowa Farm Bureau for my record of delivering bipartisan results for Iowa agriculture,” said Ashley Hinson. “Too many people in Washington, on both sides of the aisle, think their food comes from the grocery store. I’ll always support Iowa agriculture, even when it means bucking my own party, and keep fighting to lower input costs, implement year-round E-15, expand market access, and push back on burdensome regulations like Prop 12 so that Iowa farmers can continue to feed and fuel the world.”
“Our PAC takes great care evaluating candidates based on voting records, past support and grassroots input from every county Farm Bureau in the state,” said Tim Diamond, Iowa Farm Bureau PAC chair and Grundy County farmer. “Our process is grounded in support for Farm Bureau policies, and we are proud to stand behind candidates who have earned our endorsement and will continue to be champions for agriculture and Iowa’s hard-working farm families.”
Hinson’s track record delivering for Iowa agriculture:
- Secured House passage of year-round E-15 after more than a decade of D.C. gridlock;
- Secured House passage of a new, five-year Farm Bill, including provisions she sponsored to help farmers purchase precision agriculture technologies and overturn California’s Proposition 12 mandate on Iowa pig farmers;
- Increased the death tax exemption, ensuring Iowa family farms can be passed from one generation to the next;
- Strengthened crop insurance for young and beginning farmers; and
- Increased outdated reference prices for corn and soybeans.
Josh Turek’s anti-agriculture record:
- Supports California’s Proposition 12, which would put Iowa family farms out of business;
- Supports repealing the Working Families Tax Cuts, which would increase the death tax on Iowa farmers and prevent family farms from being passed to the next generation;
- Opposed legislation to properly label fake meat as fake; and
- Skipped the vote on the Iowa Farm Bill.
