Marion, IA – Today, The Washington Post named Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer the 7th most vulnerable incumbent in the country. This announcement follows Hinson’s record breaking $1,050,000 second quarter where she not only outraised Congresswoman Finkenauer, but also doubled her amount of first-time individual contributors.
“Our campaign’s message is clearly resonating with folks in Iowa’s First Congressional District. People are sick and tired of politics as usual. I’m running to end the chaos and dysfunction we see in Washington happening on both sides of the aisle. I look forward to spending every day from now till November holding Congresswoman Finkenauer accountable to her liberal record.” – Ashley Hinson
“This is yet another indicator that Ashley has the momentum in this race and is on track for victory in November. Congresswoman Finkenauer has repeatedly pandered to the Washington establishment and Democratic leadership. She pulled a fast one on Iowan’s in 2018, our campaign will hold her accountable.” – Annie Topp, Press Secretary
Ashley is in the highest tier of the ‘Young Gun Program’ by the National Republican Congressional Committee after establishing her clear path to victory. National political forecasters believe the 1st Congressional District will be one of the most competitive races in 2020. The Cook Political Report has rated IA-01 as “Toss Up.”
Ashley has a record of winning tough elections. She won in 2018 in a swing district to help hold the Iowa House majority and outperformed the Republican ticket by 5-8 points across House District 67, the heart of IA-01. She won 9 of 13 precincts in House District 67 in spite of Democratic outside groups outspending Republican outside groups.
