Hinson Campaign Slams Gazette Fact-Checker for Spreading Misinformation

Marion, IA – This morning, The Gazette printed a “fact-check” with the headline: “Does Hinson support criminalizing abortion without exceptions?” The Gazette fact-checking team did not reach out to the Congresswoman or any of her offices for her position on this issue, instead running a factually inaccurate piece and spreading misinformation.

“Congresswoman Hinson is unapologetically pro-life, strongly supported the Supreme Court victory that will save countless unborn lives, and has long championed efforts to support expecting mothers and their babies. She does not support prosecuting women who have had abortions, a fact the so-called “fact-checkers” in the media lied about because their objective is to constantly attack conservatives, especially strong conservative moms like Ashley. The question the people of Iowa deserve answered is does liberal Liz Mathis stand with her party in supporting unrestricted abortion on demand up until the moment the baby is born?”  – Sophie Crowell, Campaign Manager

Here are the facts:

Congresswoman Hinson is pro-life and has been a champion of pro-life issues in Congress. She has fought to ensure that expecting mothers have access to care and that taxpayer dollars never fund abortions, and she will continue fighting against the Democrats’ extreme position that abortion should be allowed through all nine months of pregnancy. She does not support prosecuting women for having an abortion.

The Gazette lied to their readers by saying there has been no public statement available on this issue. Our campaign put out a statement on June 24th, 2022, reading in part: “Ashley is pro-life. She does not support prosecuting women for having an abortion and supported a heartbeat bill that includes exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother.”

On June 28th, 2022, Congresswoman Hinson was the only Republican on the House Appropriations Committee who supported an amendment that would prevent women from being prosecuted for having an abortion.
